Mr. Porter’s debate classes were involved in a “Mock Trial” on Friday. They were given a scenario but had to come up with the opening and closing statements along with all the questions.
The boys were the plaintiffs and had a very solid outing. They were led by Evan. The girls were the defense and they were led by both Emily and Jenna. Both sides went into the event very confident and well prepared. The boys made their case first and made it pretty strong, based on their witnesses (especially Michael ). The girls did a good job challenging and managed to trip up one of the boys. The girls witnesses were very strong and didn’t wilt under the pressure the boys put on them. Megan did an especially good job at that.
In the end, the jury (consistenting of Paul Keene, Natalie and Jamie Keefer, Rachelle Menti and Guy Hardcastle) found in favor of the defense. All in all, it was a very good trial and great effort was seen on both sides.
